WRCLW Orange Rye RIS

Russian imperial stout is a historic style of dark beer brewed at the turn of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century by London breweries for beer enthusiasts looking for new experiences. Distinct malty tones: coffee, chocolate, and caramel, as well as velvety rye malts and dry oranges bring to mind Belgian citrus pralines.

WRCLW Orange Rye RIS

Dry Spanish oranges added right before bottling with the use of Hop Gun give the beer its truly refreshing touch. Citrus aroma and overtone are a novelty in Russian Imperial Stout. It works really well! This orange touch rounds out this dark, dessert, savoury beer.

Style

One of the strongest beer styles in the world, Russian Imperial Stout, is a historic style of dark beer brewed at the turn of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century by London breweries. This style has been created for the same reasons as today’s brewers design new wave beers. That is to say, to meet the needs of beer enthusiasts looking for new quality in beers, specifically the fuller bodied and stronger styles. With time, the style gained in popularity in the Old Continent, and Sankt Petersburg. This is why in the 20th century it earned the name of Russian Imperial Stout.

Malts/extract:

In order to achieve such a high extract, we have used exceptionally big amounts of malts. We have decided on a mix typical for Imperial Stout: the basic Pilsner malt, Munich malt for Fuller taste, caramel malt for aromas of roasted caramel and dark malts: chocolate, wheat malt, as well as colouring malt filled with chocolate and coffee aromas. We have given the beer a twist. The rye malt accounts for higher viscosity of the beer and a bit of roughness which brings to mind the earthy and spicy tones of this ingredient.

Hops

We have used traditional, continental hops, Magnum, to produce bitterness necessary to achieve balance between malts and hops, and Tettnanger to produce herbal aroma, which oxidizes in strong, dark beers.
